Gawaling Tours & Treks, Bhutan Dancing with Cranes

Dancing with Cranes

Black necked Crane is the rare spices found in Bhutan. They migrate from great Tibetan plateau to Bhutan in early September and fly Back on mid of April. Usually in Bhutan they have habitat in eastern and western part of Bhutan. In west they migrate to the place called Phobjikha, valley which is under WangdiPhodrang District (just 6-7 hrs drive from Thimphu). To preserve their habitat our govt. has taken initiative of not disturbing their habitat by just not providing electricity to the valley, but we do have solar energy in this valley for the local inhabitants and also for standard hotel and luxurious resort. These cranes have a unique features like, ‘they dance when they are happy’ and they eat the dwarf bamboo shoots, its roots and worms.

The people in Phobjikha valley celebrate crane festival on 11th and 12th Nov. every year. During the festival we receive numerous tourists to witness the festival and the local people, they dance like cranes do.
